Nov 25th to Dec 5th, 2020

Join Optical Ocean Sales for one or two 10 day all-inclusive Photo Expeditions on the luxurious Damai II liveaboard from Halmahera to Sorong.

These cruises feature a wide range of areas with unique diving opportunities to shoot everything from mantas to nudibranchs, soft coral mangroves to hard coral reefs! Do one or the other – or both!

Halmahera to Raja Ampat (Nov 25th - Dec 5th, 2020):

Diving in Halmahera offers a variety of underwater experiences including a spattering of wrecks in the north, some world class muck diving sites in the south and some of the best examples of hard coral gardens in Indonesia.

Halmahera liveaboard trips offer divers the chance to dive all corners of this remote and diverse archipelago. North of the Banda Sea and west of the world famous Raja Ampat lies this underpopulated island and its neighbouring archipelago of volcanoes, sandy islands and mangroves. Visit the drop offs in south Bacan to see Barracuda, the islands of Goraici to enjoy schooling reef fish and bait balls attracting numerous hunters, tunas, and mackerel and hunt under the docks at Makian and Leilei for critters. This is definitely a hot spot and we believe the best is still to be discovered!

Departing from the Sultanate of Ternate, the Damai II liveaboard will make the first stop at the volcanic island of Tidore to enjoy schooling fish and some cool macro. From here you will island hop through the picturesque northern Maluku islands; from Makian into the archipelago of Goraici with its seamounts with possible manta sightings and great reefs and beautiful coral gardens to Bacan with its world class muck diving in the morning along the black sand slopes in front of the boat-building beach and its schooling barracuda off the wall in the afternoon.

Cross the Seram Sea to the remote island of Pulau Pisang with its spectacular topography of pinnacles and plateaus teaming with schooling fish. We will continue to dive the north part of Raja Ampat for this leg, depending on weather.

Kri and Dampier Straits: At the eastern end of the famous Dampier Strait there are many signature dive sites. Cape Kriis a sloping reef on the eastern end on the island of Kri; Blue Magic and Sardine reef are seamounts covered in schooling fish and cruising sharks and rays; Mioskon is a great spot for the endemic Wobbegong shark and Pontohi pygmy seahorses.

Manta Sandy and Arborek Manta Sandy is a signature site for experiencing the grace of Reef Mantas. They are frequent visitors to the cleaning stations dotted along this sandy channel. Feel free to explore the sand for small critters while you are waiting for an appearance. Arborek Jetty is part of a sloping reef in front of the island. There are schools of fish, excellent wide angle photo opportunities under the jetty itself and good critter hunting to be done along the slopes. In the late afternoon take a stroll around the village on the island.

Gam The variety of diving in Gam is exceptional. The signature sites include the exciting seamount Mayhem; the beautiful orange and yellow soft corals at Citrus Ridge; and Mangrove Ridge in the channel between Gam and Yangeffo with its pristine hard corals.

Kawe and Aljui Bay The current rich rocks off the west and south coasts of Kawe is another opportunity to see Reef Mantas and schooling fish interspersed with excellent macro opportunities.

Our liveaboard cruise ends in Sorong. Read more about the itinerary here.
