Gorontalo to Halmahera, Indonesia

April 9th to April 20th, 2022

Join Optical Ocean Sales for a 10 day all-inclusive Photo Expeditions on the luxurious Damai II liveaboard from Gorantalo, Sulawesi to Halmahera, North Maluku.

Gorontalo, one of Indonesia’s lesser-dove areas, has excellent macro sites scattered around the mouth of the river, and steep walls famous for their exceptional Petrosia lignose (Salvador Dali sponge). Gorontalo liveaboard trips travel south to the Togean Islands nestled in the Gulf of Tomini.

Among this region are the extravagant reefs of Una Una island and the ever-sought-after Hippocampus waleananus (Walea pygmy seahorse) around Kadidiri island. A highlight of the Togeans is the well-known Red Jellyfish Lake. This freshwater lake is conveniently situated a short, two-minute walk to the shore where one can find many of the beautiful, non-stinging red jellyfish.

Our itineraries are always weather and diving condition dependent, and may change with conditions and guests wishes to dive.

Starting the trip to Gorontalo, famous for their unique Petrosia lignose, AKA Salvadore Dali sponges while passing through the Togeans island for a chance to visit the Red Jellyfish Lake. Continue the journey sailing through the rarely visit islands and reefs of Halmahera, in North Maluku, which is famous for its second to number schooling of Barracuda and Jacks.

Among the rarely dove islands and walls, opportunities will abound to photograph everything from whale sharks to rare macro critters, sponges, black coral, black tip and reef sharks and huge clouds of fish of every description and variety.
