The Olympus XZ1 sits proudly among the range of premium compact cameras and allows the user access to full manual control. The XZ1 also boasts stunning optics, indeed the brightest zoom lens of any current compact and is built around a high sensitivity 1/1.63” CCD. This gives the XZ1 one of the largest sensors to appear in a compact camera to date. Other high-end highlights include two control dials (including a dial around the lens), a bright, high-resolution OLED screen and a flash hotshoe. A key feature of interest to underwater photographers is that the camera’s flash output can be reduced to 1/64 enabling triggering of strobes with fiber optic without excessive flash recycle times.
The Nauticam NA-XZ1
Packed with many of the characteristic features of Nauticam housings, the NA-XZ1 provides exceptional robustness alongside intelligent ergonomic sensitivity.
The Nauticam NA-XZ1 housing allows full access to all controls of this impressive, miniature-powerhouse of a camera. Constructed of marine-grade, anodised, CNC machined aluminium resulting in a rugged, durable underwater solution, the NA-XZ1 is depth rated to 100m. Other highlights of the Nauticam NA-XZ1 include a super sensitive shutter release mechanism, a 67mm threaded front port enabling easy use of external wet mount lenses, a cold shoe mount and M10 mounting thread hole, sacrificial zinc anodes, easy to remove optical mount allowing an easy choice between using optional fibre optic cables for external strobes or optional diffuser, and Nauticam’s patented housing closure mechanism.
Optional extras include a wide angle air lens, popularised on the NA-LX5, restoring the camera’s original field of view (28mm), right hand strap, flash diffuser and Nauticam’s soon to be available tray and arm system.
